Surgical Gastroenterology

The department of Surgical Gastroenterology was started in 2008 with the intention of providing professional GI surgical care to the patients of KIMS. The department manages patients with complicated surgical problems of the GI tract and has outpatient clinics and admission facilities in general, special wards and intensive care unit. The department has been conducting major and complex supra-major surgeries both in open as well as laparoscopic techniques apart from performing endoscopic procedures as OP and IP regularly. The long term vision of the department is to initiate the PG programme in MCh Surgical Gastroenterology so as to train the postgraduates of MS Gen Surgery in the field of GI surgery.

Surgical procedures (both laparoscopic and open procedures)

Esophageal surgeries like Nissen fundoplication, colonic replacement for corrosive injuries of esophagus, esophagectomy for carcinomas, Heller’s cardiomyotomy etc

Gastric surgeries like total gastrectomy, distal radical gastrectomies, gastric pull-up etc

Gynaecomastia Correction (Male Breast Correction Surgery)

Small bowel, colonic and rectal surgeries like intestinal resections and anastomosis, procto- colectomy, surgeries for ulcerative colitis, total colectomy, Abdomino perineal resection, Anterior resections, TME etc

Liver surgeries like hydatid cyst etc

Biliary tract surgeries like hepaticojejunostomies for biliary strictures, choledochal cyst excision, CBD exploration, Gall bladder surgeries etc

Pancreatic surgeries like Whipple’s pancreaticoduodenectomy, Frey’s procedure, surgeries for acute and chronic pancreatitis and its complications, distal pancreatectomy, etc

Surgeries related to portal hypertension like splenorenal shunts, Suguira’s procedure, etc

Diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies, Endoscopic stent placements, Foreign body removal etc
