The Institute was started in the year 1981 as a medical college and has its own multi specialty hospital providing tertiary medical care and community health services. The total bed strength of the hospital is 1000. It is currently affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka and recognized by the Medical Council of India for imparting training for U.G. and P.G. courses in various medical and surgical specialties. The institute is also recognized by General Medical Council, UK and is listed in the Directory of Medical Schools of World health Organization. The annual intake for MBBS course is 120 and PG degree/ diploma in various specialties is 54.

Till date more than 3500 doctors and specialists have graduated from the Institute. The college has been conducting postgraduate courses since 1991 in the various medical and surgical disciplines. The Institute provides a very good infrastructure for medical care and research. It has been in the forefront of academics and health care delivery with many awards and commendations. It has played a major role in training medical professionals not only to the people of Karnataka but through its alumni to across India and the world over.

Our faculty comprises of very talented, renowned and successful physicians, surgeons and basic science teachers. It has been imparting up-to-date knowledge and training in an environment of good diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, research and academic activity.
