Oculoplasty Evaluation

Ophthalmology department started functioning as undergraduate department since 1982 and got established as a post graduate teaching institution from 1991, for master degree from 1991 and diploma degree since 1997. The patient input to the department is excellent providing good atmosphere for learning. The departments admits 6 M.S. seats every year.

The daily average OPD attendance is about 90-100 patients. All major investigational procedures are done regularly. Surgical facilities available include anterior segment surgeries: hi-tech microsurgeriens done for cataract, glaucoma, squint, eyelid and adnexal surgery, emergency trauma eye care services & posterior segment work up also done regularly.

The department conducts screening camps in rural areas, school eye screening programs & hospital based camp surgeries. Eye banking services are provided round the clock. Procurement of eyeballs from the hospital as well as outside calls are attended & eyeballs are distributed to other corneal surgeons at Minto RIO and Lions eye hospital. Keratoplasties done on a regular basis Speciality clinics such as uvea, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology and cornea are conducted regularly.

KIMS Ophthalmology provides good patient care. Department is equipped with all kinds of surgical and diagnostic equipments. Other medical diagnostic services like CT, MRI to aid ophthalmology related services are also available.

Equipments like slit lamp biomicroscopy, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopes, autorefractometers, Tonometers of different types, digital retinal imaging, A scan, B scan, visual field analyser, Retinoscopes, good surgical tables with operating microscopes are available.Surgeries done include: Phacoemulsification, SICS, Trabeculectomy, etc.

Super speciality clinics are scheduled on the following weekdays:

Glaucoma: Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Comprehensive Glaucoma work up and management

Retina: Tuesday. LASER Photocoagulation for diabetic retinopathy and other conditions. Intravitreal VEGF therapy and other basic vitreoretinal surgeries.

Oculoplasty: Thursday. Oculoplastic surgeries including orbital fracture repairs, Ptosis surgeries, skin grafting for eyelid repair and management of contracted socket.

Paediatric Ophthalmology: Friday.

CME Conducted

Nethrashala PG CME cosponsored by BOS was conducted in September 2017 and PG’s were trained for three days on skill enhancement in different sub specialities.

Glaucoma CME was conducted in January 2018, presided by Dr. Gouri Murthy, Glaucoma consultant at Prabha and Vittala eye institute.

Oculoplasty suturing workshop- Suturing Patashala was conducted in March 2019. Wet lab facilities and guidance was provided to train PG’s in different ophthalmic suturing techniques.

Oculoplasty club meet was conducted in Jan 2020 where challenging oculoplasty cases were presented and management was discussed by eminent oculoplasty consultants.

 

Guest lectures

Dr. Prashanth, Professor at Ambedkar medical college gave inputs on valuable take home messages on Efficient management of cataract surgery complications, in June 2018.

Dr. Seetharamu, Associate professor in Shri Devi medical college, tumkur gave an insight about role of CT in orbital diseases, in November 2018.

Dr. Keerthi kumar, Retina consultant at Ambedkar medical college gave a lecture on management of Diabetic retinopathy, in January 2019.

Dr. Mayur, Surgical oncologist at Apollo Hospital and Assistant professor at Ambedkar medical college gave lecture on lecture on Retinoblastoma in September 2019.

Dr.Ajay, Professor and HOD at Oxford medical college gave a lecture on role of Femtolaser in Ophthalmology, in February 2020.
